Alright, we’re starting our second month with the Philips 2000i Air Purifier and I feel like we’re entering the real test now. You can check out my first post here. I go over all its features and setting it up.
For the last month, I kept it in Oliver’s room. Forget about the fact that he wasn’t coughing nearly as much at night. In fact, I don’t actually remember one night where he was coughing while it was running in there. Don’t even think about how, after Oliver complained that he couldn’t fall asleep with the sound of it running normally, I just used the app to switch it to silent mode and he was asleep in minutes. The Air Matters app is an amazing tool, and I am constantly surprised by how useful it actually is.
Now, while those were admittedly awesome, my hands down favourite result was the smell. Or rather the lack of smell. His room smells SO MUCH BETTER. The boy is getting older, and he has his own bathroom in there. It’s basically been a steadily growing stink-bomb for the last year and now it just smells fresh. Like crisp breeze, spring day fresh, without spraying chemicals into the air to mask it. I LOVE IT!
All joking aside…
I know, in all seriousness though, the difference the Philips 2000i Air Purifier made to his sleep quality far surpasses everything else. I’ve been sleeping better knowing how much of a difference it’s made for him in such a short amount of time. You can see how much better it made the air quality in his room in my original post.
I wanted to switch things up this month though, to try and be able to talk about the different ways you might use it. School started two weeks ago for the kids. By the middle of their second week I already had two of the three kids traveling the house with their own personal Kleenex box. Awesome.
My kids are like little leaches when they’re home after school. Unless they have a friend over, they are wherever I am, and I’m usually in the kitchen. So, I moved the Philips 2000i Air Purifier down to our open concept kitchen / eating / family room. I put it right beside the cat’s house, figuring I might as well go all in. Two medium length hair cats and a husband with an allergy to dander is an awesome combination.
Benefits you can actually see
After the air purifier running for a couple of hours I checked in on the app and saw this awesome little notice: Recommended to run in low speed or automode. I’ve got it on the general automatic setting now, so it’ll just adjust itself as it needs to. I’ve seen this happen multiple times today as the kids were running in and out of the backyard and right by it. I love that the app will suggest to you the best way to run it based on the room conditions.
I saw it kick up to a higher setting when the door kept opening and closing behind it, when the cats decided to head up for a nap, and when Anna decided the ottoman was a trampoline. Even though the allergen and air quality index only went up a small amount (a couple of points), I was still surprised at how quickly it was back down to 1 or 2. I love that the app is monitoring everything for me, and letting me know the best settings to utilize. The Philips 2000i Air Purifier works by using something they call AeraSense to continuously monitor the air and then automatically adjust the fan speed if it detects a change.
What about Maintenance?
Something else the app does a really good job of doing is letting you know how much life you have left in your filters. Spoiler alert: it’s a lot, because these don’t need to be replaced as often as other brands. I went into this in more detail in my first post here. The pre-filter that needs cleaning in 54 hours, that’s as simple as holding it under running water, and then letting it dry before putting it back in.
I’ve loved how easy this is air purifier has been to use. It’s already given me enough added peace of mind with Oliver’s sleeping (did you know 80% of parents feel that asthma and airborne allergens are affecting their children’s sleep? I was one of them – key word was!). Now, with the sniffles in full force and the cold weather on the way, I’m excited to see how it performs downstairs. I’ll update you all again in another month with my final thoughts, and tell you where in the house we decided the Philips 2000i Air Purifier would make its forever home.
