So, we’ve had the Philips 2000i Air Purifier for 4 months now, and I thought it would be a good time to wrap up my thoughts about it. We really put this machine to use, moving it around the house, room by room, to see how it affected our day to day life differently depending on where it was.
First, a little background
You can check out my first review here. It’s a great place to start if you’re just beginning to think about getting an air purifier, and are curious about just what this one has feature wise. Hint: tons of settings that are super easy to adjust to exactly what you need, three layers of filters that are long lasting and do an amazing job to reducing allergens and toxins in the air, and wifi connectivity through an app that lets you stay on top of things even when you’re not close by. That app was the most surprisingly useful thing, seriously, I LOVE it and I originally didn’t think I was going to use it at all!
If you’re starting to narrow down your choices, my two-month update is a great place to check out the changes we noticed right away. We started off with the Philips 2000i Air Purifier in my son Oliver’s room. He’s the one that struggles with seasonal airborne allergens, that have been really difficult to pin point.
After four months though, I’ve had the chance to set up the air purifier all over our house, and now I’d love to tell you about the changes I noticed.
Around the house in 30 days
I kept it in our master bedroom for a few weeks. Bo does not cope well with pet dander, and I was curious to see if it would help with his sleep at all. The air quality in our bedroom is pretty good though, surprisingly. I’m guessing it has a lot to do with the fact that I try to keep our doors closed as much as possible, so the cats don’t get in there a whole bunch. I have to say that Bo’s sleep didn’t really change at all, but it was nice to see the Philips 2000i air purifier kick up whenever I was in there changing the bed sheets or tiding up. It was definitely still working and making a difference, it just wasn’t the room where we saw the biggest benefit to family members.
I also put it downstairs in our main living area for a few weeks. Now, down here I definitely saw a big difference. The air quality fluctuates here more than anywhere else in our house. We have one giant open concept area that has our family room, eating area, and kitchen. It’s where the kids live in the morning and after school and where I spend 75% of my time, cooking and working on this blog. It’s also where the door to our back yard is, meaning there is always a constant stream of kids going in and out to play, and bringing in outdoor allergens. Oh yeah, it’s also where the cats are 90% of the time.
The Philips 2000i Air Purifier was working overtime down here, constantly revving up when necessary to bring the air quality back down to an optimal level. With the door opening and closing to the backyard, it would often jump up to an 8 or 9, but be back down to a 2 or 3 surprisingly quickly. It really was pretty impressive. I also noticed that on the one night I forgot to turn on the overhead fan for the stove when I was making popcorn (I always make ours on the stove with a whirly pop), it automatically adjusted for me to get rid of the extra odours in the air. These are the kinds of things I didn’t even think of before it was down here.
So, overall in our main living area, I did see a big benefit. I could clearly see it was working to maintain a healthy air quality reading, and doing a great job of it. This area of our house definitely has the most activity of everywhere, and the most fluctuations in air quality because of it.
So, where did the Philips 2000i air purifier make its final home?
Even though I was extremely impressed and pleased with how great of a job the air purifier did downstairs at keeping the air quality exactly where we hoped it would be, it’s not where I ended up keeping it.
The reason we originally wanted to get an air purifier for the house was to help Oliver. He’s the one person in the house who struggles with some airbourne allergens we can’t pinpoint, and it’s pretty brutal when it affects him. He’s also the first person to get sick every winter, and it always goes straight to his chest. It doesn’t matter how big and old he gets, I still see him as that teeny, tiny, five-pound preemie in the NICU, and I want just want to wrap him in bubble wrap. He’s going to kill me if he reads this one day.
So, for that Mom-required peace of mind, I’ve moved the Philips 2000i Air Purifier back into his bedroom. It’s where I noticed the most immediate benefit, and where I know we’ll have the best long term benefits. His night time coughing has practically disappeared and he doesn’t even know it’s on when I switch it to silent mode. The peace of mind of knowing that he’s been able to sleep better at night has been priceless.
